I really hate to Monday morning quarterback. BUT. I just yelled at the computer for 10min and 14sec. My defense for them is that it’s an abandoned building. It had to be. OK, let me follow the instructions.
Chief Runs with Scissors is on scene, taking Austin St Command. 3 story building 20X30 fire in the attic. Tell L-1 if they can’t throw the stick, throw a ladder. There are 3 aerials at the scene let’s get one of them to cut the roof so we can get a line or 2 into the attic. We’ll hold off on venting below the fire until we’ve got water on it.
OK, we failed at all that, surround and drowned.
Fire up the deck guns, ladder pipes, Blitz fires, and solid stream 2 1/2′s and knock the crap out of it. We turn on the water and LEAVE IT ON until the red stuff is gone. Once you start with defensive there is no going back except to mop up.
Now that it’s had a good burn and the fire’s out, ladder the crap out of it and send a truck company in with 1 Engine Company for overhaul and inspection. The attic area is probably a collapse hazard so do that from aerials after the other 3 floors are done.
They were making progress. It was occupied. I am betting it was converted to SRO’s. The 3 rd aerial had wires to contend with, they are barely visable, cause I thought the same thing stop throw the stick. Hey but one day we may all have this fire and can win the war
