The DOE Rad Specialist course was developed using the requirements in Section G of NFPA 472. The requirements in this section are very specific. The OSHA 1910.120 HAZWOPER standard specifies Specialists exist; hwoever, there isn’t much in the standard that helps course designers present the topics necessary to meet the Specialist designation.

When your program is nearing completion or ready, might you stop back by and let us know? I’d be interested in interviewing you to learn how the materials were decided upon and developed. Also, I’d like to learn more about how Universities are presenting learning programs traditionally thought of as “hands on”.

RickyBobby, thank you for the thread response. I agree, this course is highly recommended for haz mat members responsible for haz mat safety. Additionally, the materials would be helpful for advanced haz mat responders. It should be noted anyone attending this class should have prior radiation training. To gain the most from the program, the prior class needs to have covered radiation basics, biological effects, and use of radiation instrumentation.
